NYC Freedom to Learn RECEPTION – A Night of Artivism

We closed out the National Day of Action with the Freedom to Learn Reception: A Night of Artivism which featured spoken word, sketch comedy, dramatic readings, and musical performances curated by AAPF’s Creative Arts Administrator, Awoye Timpo. Speeches from Kimberlé Crenshaw and readings of Nishani Frazier’s email to the College Board and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” highlighted the urgency to fight against these censorship attacks and appeasement. The artivism space including a Zinn Education Project-inspired Books Unbanned installation and passionate performances by Alphonso Horne, France-Luce Benson, Che Kabia, Jason Salmon, Rebecca Haden, Greg Reid, Kala Ross, Kara Young, Jason Veasey, Gina Loring, Shanelle Gabriel and Urban Word NYC matched the energy from the New York City rally that will empower us all to keep up the momentum long after the National Day of Action.
